Update!

Well, since I last posted I was jobless and roommate-less. That all has changed! I decided the job as a direct support staff was not for me. It would have been a lot of training and I feel like it would have been too time consuming for a college student. I ended up getting an interview for the dietary aide job! That was on a friday and 2 days later on monday they called and offered me the job! Of course I said yes. I have orintation and then training this coming week starting on tuesday. I am super excited to make some much needed dough and to get out of the apartment and do something! Some other good news, my roommate moved in this past Monday. I now have someone to talk to! And we are great cooks, if I do say so myself. I can feel a couple of extra pounds coming my way.
Other than all of this, life is good. Not much going on. I am so ready for school to start and to start the real college life! 21 days until Mr. Cody Baker is moving up here! I am beyond ready for him to be here. 27 more days of an over-the-phone relationship! Been waiting for this for 4 years.

Four amazing years.....and counting!

Tuesday, the 13th, was Cody and I's 4 year anniversary. Of dating that is. 4 years ago yesterday, Cody and I were 2 incredibly shy people. I am not even sure if you can count it as dating. We were in Upward Bound. It was a typical teenage moment. I thought he was cute. He was younger than me and intimidated. We (all of UB) took a ride on the Queen in Arnold's Park. After much coaxing and peer pressure, Cody asked me 'out' right there on the boat. I said yes of course. And there began our relationship. And boy has it grown since then. We were two of the most awkward people ever, I will be the  first to admit it. We didn't talk much. We didn't hold hands. We were beyond shy. But things changed. Slowly, and I mean slowly,  we grew much closer. Over the past 4 years Cody and I have become best friends. He is my rock. He keeps me level headed when all I want to do is break down. Me moving to Brookings has been hard on both of us. Hard on me because, well, I am up here alone. He is 3 hours away and the 52 days till he finally comes up here (I may or may not have one of the those paper chains with 52 rings) seem like they are crawling by. Cody has put up with a lot of my emotions over the past month. That's been hard on him. But, we both know that once we get through this, everything will be much better.

So, as you know, I came home this past weekend and Cody got to spend a whole day with me! Yay! I had a little surprise up my sleeve though. Cody was under the impression that I was leaving Monday morning because I had to get back up here to pay bills and what not. Well, I lied. I was actually in Burt the whole time. Tuesday night, our anniversary, Cody had class till 9. I showed up at his house around 8 so I could be there when he got home. I had made chocolate fondue with all the fun things to dip into it. Why not a little, or a lot, of dessert to celebrate? About 8:30 Cody's car pulls in. I run and hide in his bedroom. He comes in the house and is chatting with him mom for like 10 minutes. Meanwhile, my heart is beating a million miles an hour anticipating the big reveal. He comes into his room looking for something, he doesn't even see me right away. Then he sees that it is me sitting on his bed and about craps his pants. Totally got him this time. His facial expression is was priceless. Later that night we had our little chocolate picnic along with the mosquitoes picnic on us.

Burt Days

This past weekend was Burt Days. Of course I had to come home. Not only for all the fun festivities (sarcasm) but also because my great grandma was the queen this year. I started off the morning with some garage sale-ing which turned out sucky. I got a small glass casserole dish. That's it. Then for the parade. Where G-love had her 15 minutes of fame. Isn't she such a cute old lady?
Then, there is the Toilet Toss. Yes, my hometown tosses toilets. It's quite the event. Now they have a woman's division where they throw the toilet tank lid. And the man's division which you throw the actual toilet. Casondra got out there and threw that tank lid like a champ.
The rest of the day was spent eating, catching up with people, cruising in Lorissa's convertible, and watching the not so fabulous fireworks display. But what can I say. It was an amazing weekend.

No matter how much I love being on my own in a college town, Burt will always be home. I will never forget where I came from. I don't plan on EVER moving back(no offense), but Burt will always have a special place in my heart.

Whoopsies.

I kind of forgot I had a blog. It's been like 2 months since I last updated. Well, here's an update.

I moved to Brookings in the beginning of June. I came up early thinking I would have a head start looking for jobs before all the other college kids came up. Unfortunately, that's not what is happening. I have applied for 7 or 8 jobs around town. All have come up empty but one. I finally, after almost 4 weeks, have and interview at a facility like Ex Op here. It's not my ideal job, but I guess I will take it if I get it. I applied for a dietary aide job at a nursing home, they are doing interviews "In the next couple of weeks". I don't have a couple of weeks to wait, but that would be the job I would love. It would go perfectly with my major and I could count it as job shadowing. Do I wait for the better job that I don't even have an interview for or do I take the one I have now? I am confident I would get the dietary aide job. Working at Ex Op over-qualifies me for that job. I am just not sure what to do. And the dietary aide job would fit much better in my schedule.

Other than that...I had orientation 2 weekends ago. Cody had it as well so I got to spend the weekend with him which was much needed! As for orientation, it went as well as expected. I was a little disappointed with how the transferring of credits went. Most things transferred. Like the easy stuff. But, things like chemistry and micro biology didn't transfer in right. So I have to take Chem again.

When I first moved into my apartment I noticed there were a lot of dead bees in the window sills. I didn't think much of it at first. But as time went on I kept getting live bees in my bedroom. One even landed on Cody's leg. When my mom came up for orientation, she noticed this next to my window...
A beehive larger than a basketball.
That is my bedroom window. Little scary. Needless to say, I called the maintenance people, they called an exterminator and it was gone the next day. Here are some pictures of my apartment now.

As for all of that, there isn't much more to add. This weekend is good ol' Burt Days so I will be coming home for that (my great grandma is the queen) and maybe another little visit with someone special :). Shhhhh.

Can someone say graduation?

So, since the last time I posted, my wonderful boyfriend and I have graduated! Cody graduated yesterday 3rd in his class. Mr. Smarty Pants! It was scorching hot in the gym. So hot that I didn't shed a tear because I was so uncomfortable. That is strange for me. Now we are both 'college' students! Pictures will come later!

My crazy family.

I got a cute little story for ya'll. Last night my great grandma called (she is 88) and said she wanted to come take me out for dinner. How can I say no? So she said she would be there at 4:30. Click. That was the end of the conversation. My grandma doesn't even know where the campus is, let alone my dorm. So today, when 4:30 rolled around I looked out my window. Sure enough, a couple of blocks down I see her grey impala creeping down the road......in the wrong direction. She turned a corner and then I lost her. 10 minutes later I decide I had better get in my car and go find her. As I am walking towards the parking lot, I see her and Heather, a girl who lives in another dorm building. Apparently my grandma saw a dorm building and assumed it was mine. She knocked on some doors and found Heather, who luckily knows me and knows where I live. So I am heading to my car and here comes Grandma and Heather walking towards my room. She is lucky she didn't stumble upon the redneck's rooms. They would have told her something crazy and she would have never found me. Thanks goodness for friendly neighbors and my sweet old granny.
